AI & Intelligence

Search andAI visibility.

Search and AI visibility is the work that makes a business findable by search engines, quotable by answer engines and recommendable by assistants, measured and reported in writing. It covers SEO, answer engine optimization (AEO) and generative engine optimization (GEO), the work often sold as AI SEO.

A regular report naming where you appeared, who was named instead of you, and what it produced.

Soundslike this?

  1. We are on page three for the thing we actually do.

  2. I asked an assistant who does this in our city, and we were not one of the names it gave.

  3. Our map listing has an old address on it, and nobody here knows who set it up.

  4. We keep paying for ads, and the week we pause them the phone goes quiet.

  5. Everybody in our trade knows us, and none of that reputation shows up online.

  6. The site was rebuilt last year and the inquiries went down after it.

  7. A report arrives full of numbers, and I cannot tell from it what changed.

If none of those is familiar and the real problem is that people do arrive and nothing happens, traffic is not the missing piece and Websites and Platforms is the page for that.

What this is, in plain language.

What happens today

A buyer with a problem asks somebody. Sometimes that somebody is a search engine and sometimes it is an assistant, and the assistant comes back with three or four names and a reason attached to each. Then they search those names to check them, which is the step everybody forgets is happening.

If your business is not one of the names, nothing announced it. There is no notification, no bounced message and no line in a report. You lose the shortlist in a room you were never in.

What happens after

The site can be crawled, read and quoted. The facts about the business agree with each other wherever a machine finds them. The pages answer the questions buyers actually ask, in full, in a form that can be lifted cleanly. The map listings, the directories and the profiles say the same thing as the site.

Then it is measured: where you appeared, who was named instead of you, and what it produced. Including the periods when a number goes the wrong way.

Nobody controls these systems. The work is the only part anybody can honestly sell.

Five disciplines cover it, and they are worth naming plainly. Being found and ranked in search results, which is search engine optimization (SEO). Being the direct answer in a snippet, a people also ask box or a voice result, which is answer engine optimization (AEO). Being cited and recommended by a generative assistant, which is generative engine optimization (GEO).

Keeping the whole presence tidy and monitored so machines describe the business accurately. And making the site usable by an assistant acting for a customer, so it can find the service, check availability and get a quote without a person explaining anything.

Google, and the companies that build the assistants, all decide their own results and change how they decide them. What we commit to is the work, the measurement, and honest reporting. A promise about where you will rank is a promise about somebody else's product, and it is the one thing on this page we will not make.

What is generative engine optimization (GEO)?

Generative engine optimization, or GEO, is the work that makes a business likely to be cited and recommended when someone asks a generative assistant, such as ChatGPT or Google's AI Overviews. It rests on clear facts, pages that answer real questions in full, and the same description of the business everywhere a machine looks.

What is answer engine optimization (AEO)?

Answer engine optimization, or AEO, is the work that makes a page the direct answer: the featured snippet, the people also ask box, or the spoken reply from a voice assistant. It depends on questions asked in the buyer's words and answered in the first two sentences, in a form a machine can lift cleanly.

How is GEO different from SEO?

SEO earns a place in a list of results that a person then clicks. GEO earns a mention inside an answer the person may never click past. Most of the foundation is shared: a site that can be crawled and read, facts that agree everywhere, and useful pages. AI SEO is the name many people use for both together.

Can you guarantee a mention in ChatGPT or AI Overviews?

No. Nobody controls those systems, and the companies behind them decide their own results and change how they decide them. What HUREAL commits to is the work, the measurement of where the business appeared and who was named instead, and honest reporting, including the periods when a number goes the wrong way.

Who this is for, and who it is not for.

Where this pays for itself

  • Buyers research before they choose, which is nearly every considered purchase and every professional service.
  • The business is multi-location or covers a service area, which makes map results a large part of how it is found at all.
  • Ads are already working and the organic share is meant to grow underneath them rather than replace them next quarter.
  • The category is being answered by assistants before anybody reaches a website, which is now most categories with a short list of providers.
  • The offline reputation is strong and the web has not caught up with it, which is the most common shape in established trades.
  • Somebody will publish, either on your side or on ours, because content and authority are what compound.

You probably do not need this if

  • The requirement has a date this quarter. This work compounds over months. Where a number has to move by a fixed date, advertising is the instrument for that, and we will say so.
  • The site cannot be changed. Most of the foundation is site work. Where nobody can touch the site, we would be reporting on something we are not allowed to fix.
  • Nobody will answer the questions. Answer pages are written from what your people know. Where no one on your side has time for that, the content half of this does not happen.
  • Somebody in-house already owns it and the foundation is sound. Keep them. We would rather fix the foundation once, hand over the measurement, and go away.
  • The business sells to a list of eleven named accounts. Nobody is searching for you. That is a sales motion, and no amount of this changes it.

Where the honest answer is a foundation fixed once and nothing ongoing after it, we will say so, and we will do the once.

What it includes.

Fifteen capabilities, what each one does in plain words, and what it changes for the business. The order is the order they are done in: nothing in the second group works until the first is finished, and the third compounds only if the first two hold.

None of the three headings is a link, because the pages beneath this service have not been written yet.

Search and AI visibility, the capability table
Capability What it does What it changes
Fix the foundationBefore a word is published
The visibility audit Where you stand today: rankings, technical health, listings, reviews, and what assistants currently say when asked about your category. The starting point is written down, so next month's report has something honest to be measured against.
Crawling, indexing and speed Whether the pages can be reached, read and rendered, and how fast, on the connection your buyers actually use. The work stops being undone by something nobody chose.
AI crawler access Which machines are allowed to read the site, checked and corrected, because many sites block them by inheriting a default. You decide who can read you, rather than a plugin deciding it in a file nobody opens.
Structured data Organization, service, product, location, article and FAQ markup across page types, validated per type. A machine parses the page instead of guessing at it.
Entity work Making the business one clearly defined thing: one name, one address, one description of what it does. An assistant can tell you apart from a company with a similar name in another province.
Build the answersWritten from what your people know
Question research What buyers ask, what competitors cover, and what assistants currently cite when the question is asked. The content plan comes from demand rather than from a keyword list somebody bought.
Answer-focused pages Pages written to answer one question completely, in the first eighty words, in a form that can be lifted cleanly. The page is quotable, which is the condition for being the answer rather than a result.
Consistency across the site The same facts, the same service names and the same claims on every page that states them. A machine reading five pages comes away with one description of you.
Local pages and profiles A page per location or service area, and the map profile, the hours and the categories that go with it. The map result is earned rather than left to whatever was claimed years ago.
Agent-readable structure Services, availability, contact and booking paths reachable without a person explaining them, and without a dead end. An assistant acting for a customer can complete the task rather than abandoning it.
Earn the authority, and measure itThe part that compounds
Facts consistent off the site The name, address and description matching across your profile, directories, associations, regulators and review sites. Nothing contradicts you in the sources a machine checks you against.
Mentions and listings The memberships, directories, associations and press where your category is genuinely referenced. The business becomes citable, which is what a recommendation is made out of.
Reviews, handled properly The channel, the request, the reply and the record, run by you with a process rather than by us with a shortcut. The reviews are real, which is the only kind that survives a platform's next cleanup.
Measurement Rankings, traffic, citations in AI answers, competitor share of voice, and the inquiries that came out of it. A report that says what moved and what did not, in a form a board can read.
The record of the work What was changed, when, and why, kept as a document rather than as a memory. The programme is transferable, including to somebody who is not us.

Scroll the table sideways to read it.

How it works.

Four things on your own site, one line, and two machines reading the same four. The drawing is the shape of the whole programme: almost all of the work is upstream of the split, which is why doing it twice, once for search and once for assistants, is how budgets get spent twice.

Scroll the drawing sideways to read it.

One set of foundations, two readers, two different results. The line in the middle is where your name is put on something.

What the system does

The work, the path it takes, and everything HUREAL builds. It never means anything else.

What stays with a person

The line, its single opening, and the plate standing in it. On a light board it is the one dark plate.

What you already run

Present, named, and not for sale. The lowest contrast on the board, deliberately.

  1. Four things on your site, and everything else is downstream of them.

Pages that answer a real question in full. Structured data so a machine can parse rather than infer. An entity, which means one name, one address and one description of what the business is. And speed and access, because a page that cannot be reached and rendered is a page that does not exist to either reader.

  2. Nothing goes out in your name until you have read it.

Every page, every profile description and every answer is your words about your business, approved before it is published. This is the line on this service, and it exists because the failure mode here is not a bad ranking. It is a confident sentence about your company that nobody at your company wrote.

  3. Below the line the same four are read twice.

A search engine crawls, indexes and ranks, and decides where you sit in a list and whether you appear in the map pack. An assistant crawls, works out which entity you are, and decides whether to cite you when somebody asks a question you answer. Same pages, different arithmetic.

  4. One path ends in a click.

Somebody arrives on the page that answered them, which is why the page has to carry a next step rather than just an answer. This is the path that has a report and a history, and it is still where most of the traffic comes from.

  5. The other ends in a recommendation, and the recommendation gets checked.

An assistant names three or four companies with a reason attached, and the person then searches those names to verify them. That last step is why the two halves are one job: being recommended and then failing the check is worse than not being named, and it is the most common way this goes wrong.

The smallest version of this is one question: can the machines reach you at all? The free check reads your robots rules and what your server actually answers, and reports which crawlers are being turned away. The same check is part of the Website Performance Audit.

Start with an audit

What you end up with.

  • The visibility audit

Where you stand today across rankings, technical health, listings, reviews and what assistants say when asked about your category.

  • A technical foundation that holds

Crawling, indexing, speed, structure, duplicates and crawler access, fixed once and checked regularly after that.

  • Structured data per page type

Written, validated, and kept current when the pages change, which is the part that usually rots first.

  • The entity, settled

One name, one address, one description, consistent everywhere a machine can find you, with the list of places it was corrected.

  • Answer pages

Written from what your people know, approved by you, each one answering a real question completely.

  • The measurement definitions

What counts as an inquiry, what counts as a citation, and what a ranking is measured on, agreed before the first report.

  • The regular report

Where you appeared, who was named instead of you, what it produced, and what did not work.

  • The listings and profile record

Every profile, directory and association entry, what it says, and who controls the login.

  • The record of the work

What was changed, when and why, written so the programme is transferable to somebody who is not us.

  • The accounts

Analytics, search consoles and profiles in your own name.

V3. The readability check, drawn

your-company/visibility/readability 5 readers, 2 blocked

What each machine could actually read

Read from your robots rules and from what your server answered. No opinions in it.

  • A search engine crawlerWanted the pages and the sitemap

Reached everything it asked for. This is the reader almost every site is already set up for, because it is the one everybody has heard of.

    Reached
  • An assistant fetching liveWanted the one page a person just asked about

Turned away by the bot rules in front of the site. Nobody chose this: the rule was set to stop scrapers and it stops the assistant answering a question about you.

    Blocked
  • A training crawlerWanted the public pages

Disallowed in the robots file. That is a legitimate decision and it has a cost, so it belongs on a page where somebody decided it rather than in a file copied from a template.

    Blocked
  • A machine reading your factsWanted the name, address and hours

Found three versions across the site and the listings. It will pick one, and which one is not up to you until they agree.

    Reached
  • A machine reading a service pageWanted a sentence it could quote

Reached the page and found no definition in the first eighty words. A page that describes itself is a page that can be quoted, and this one describes a company.

    Reached
Two of the five are decisions nobody made: a line copied into a robots file and a bot rule left at a provider's default. Whether to allow a training crawler is a real decision with a real cost either way, and it should be made by you on purpose rather than inherited.

Search consoles, analytics and business profiles stay in your own accounts from day one. How ownership works

Discover, design, build, launch, improve. Scope, price and timing are agreed before implementation. See the full process

What it connects to.

Half of this list is not software. A machine deciding whether to name you checks the site against everywhere else the business is described, and the contradictions it finds are the reason it names somebody else.

Where a profile or a listing is controlled by somebody who no longer works with you, which is common, recovering it is part of the work.

  • Your website and its content system

Where the foundation work actually happens, and the one place all of this either holds or does not.

any modern content system, including one you already run
  • Map and business profiles

Where hours, categories, address and photographs decide whether you appear in a local result at all.

Google Business Profile, Apple Business Connect, Bing Places
  • Search consoles and analytics

Where the evidence comes from, in your own accounts rather than in a dashboard we keep.

Google Search Console, Bing Webmaster Tools, your existing analytics
  • Directories and associations

Where your category is genuinely listed, including the trade bodies nobody outside your industry has heard of.

    industry associations, chambers, trade directories
  • Regulators and licensing bodies

Where a public record of the business already exists, which a machine will treat as more reliable than your own site.

provincial registries, licensing boards, professional colleges
  • Review platforms

Where the reputation is written by other people, and where a process on your side matters more than anything on ours.

the platforms your industry is actually reviewed on
  • Your CRM

Where an inquiry becomes a record with a source, which is the only way this work is measured against revenue rather than against traffic.

    Salesforce, HubSpot, Zoho, Dynamics
  • Your catalogue or product data

Where the specifications live that a buyer is searching for, and where a feed is often more useful than a page.

an ERP, a store platform, a product information system
  • Profiles you already have

Video, social and publishing profiles, which mostly matter here because they state facts about the business that have to agree with the rest.

    your existing company profiles

Every connection is validated by HUREAL's engineers during scoping and confirmed in writing before signature. Where a system genuinely cannot be connected, you hear it during discovery rather than during the build, and the scope is drawn around it instead of making a platform migration the price of entry.

What we do, and what we will not do.

What we do

  • Fix the foundation firstCrawling, speed, structure, structured data and crawler access, before a word is published.
  • Write from what you knowAnswer pages drawn out of your own people, approved by you, published in your words.
  • Settle the factsOne name, one address, one description, made consistent everywhere a machine checks you.
  • Agree the measures firstWhat counts as an inquiry and what counts as a citation, defined before the first report rather than after a bad one.
  • Report the bad monthsWhat moved, what did not, and what we changed because of it, in writing, every time.
  • Track the assistants as well as the enginesBoth are in one report, because they are one job and the buyer moves between them in a single afternoon.
  • Leave it transferableAccounts in your name, and a record of the work written so somebody who is not us can continue it.

What we will not do

  • Guarantee a ranking or a mentionNobody controls these systems, so nobody can promise a place in them.
  • Buy linksA bought link is a rented position with a scheduled repossession, and the cleanup afterwards costs more than the work would have.
  • Publish pages written for a machineIf a page would embarrass you when a customer reads it aloud, it does not go up, whatever it might do for a ranking.
  • Change a fact to fit a search termNot the service names, not the locations, not what the business actually does. The entity is a fact before it is an asset.
  • Write your reviews or suggest who shouldReviews are somebody else's words. We build the process that asks, and nothing else.
  • Report a number we did not measureNo estimated values, no modelled attribution presented as fact, and no metric that only exists inside our own tool.
  • Decide who is allowed to read your siteWhether to let training crawlers in is a real decision with a cost either way. We put it in front of you rather than setting it quietly.

In-house, a retainer, or foundation first.

Three ways to buy this work. They cost different amounts, they fail differently, and the first one is genuinely the right answer for any business that already has somebody who owns it.

The three approaches, on ten deciding factors
Deciding factor In-house, with the team you haveKept An ongoing retainerRetained Foundation first, then the programmeFixed, then run
What you are buying Your own people's attention, alongside everything else they do. An ongoing service, usually content and a report. A foundation fixed once, and then an ongoing programme on top of it.
Cost to start Nothing new. Low, and it starts straight away. Highest, because phase one is a project rather than a subscription.
Cost to keep A salary and a share of somebody's week. The retainer fee. The ongoing programme, declinable, on a foundation that is already fixed.
Who fixes the technical foundation Whoever can change the site, if that person exists. Depends on whether the arrangement includes changing the site itself. It is phase one, and the rest of the work is not sold without it.
Where the content comes from Your people, in the gaps between their real jobs. A writer assigned to your account. Your people's knowledge, drafted and edited by us, approved by you before it is published.
When the site is rebuilt Depends entirely on who is in the room when it happens. Depends on the arrangement. The redirect map is part of the work, because a page that ranks and disappears takes its traffic with it.
Assistants and answer engines Rarely covered, because it is new and it is nobody's job yet. Sometimes, as a separate line. The same job and the same report, because the buyer moves between the two in one afternoon.
Reporting Whatever the free tools show, read by whoever has time. A regular report. Measures defined before the work starts, including the periods a number went the wrong way.
What stays with you if you stop Everything. It is your own people. Depends on the arrangement. Accounts in your name, and a written record of what was done.
When it is the right answer Somebody owns it, the foundation is sound, and they have the hours. The foundation is sound and what is needed is steady publishing and consistency. The foundation is working against you, the facts about the business disagree, or nobody has checked whether the machines can read you.

Which one to choose

If somebody in-house already owns this and the foundation is sound, keep them. They know the business better than any outsider will, and the honest engagement in that situation is a one-off: we fix the foundation, hand over the measurement definitions and the record, and go away.

We will quote that instead of a programme, and we will say so on the discovery call.

If the foundation is sound and what you actually need is volume, a retainer that publishes is the cheaper buy. Paying for a diagnosis of something that is not broken is paying twice, and the technical half of this service is worth very little on a site that is already correct.

This earns its cost in a narrower place than the category admits: the foundation is actively working against you, the facts about the business contradict each other across the web, or your category is being answered by assistants and nobody has checked whether you can be read at all.

That is the whole case, and the audit is how we find out which of the three you are in.

Designed around the markets you serve.

This is the service that publishes sentences about your business in public, and that loads scripts on your pages before anybody has agreed to them. We identify privacy, accessibility, data-location, and operational requirements during discovery, based on where your business operates and what the system handles.

Technical controls and documentation are agreed with your team and legal advisers where needed. For a business operating in Canada, these are the requirements that usually apply.

  • Claims on the pages we publishCanada's Competition Act, for anything stated as a fact about your business

What we design forEvery performance claim, comparison, credential, award and statistic on a page we write is traceable to something you can evidence, or it is cut. Price and availability statements say what they mean, including what is excluded. No claim about a competitor, ever, which is also a house rule rather than only a requirement.

What we document for your counselThe source behind every factual claim we published, page by page, so a challenge can be answered with the evidence rather than with a search of somebody's memory.

  • PrivacyPIPEDA, and Quebec's Law 25 where it applies

What we design forAnalytics and marketing scripts behind a consent surface that actually changes what loads, rather than a banner that records a decision and ignores it. The smallest set of fields on every form, a stated purpose for each, and retention set per record type.

What we document for your counselEvery script the site loads, what it collects, which processor receives it, and what changes when a visitor declines.

  • AccessibilityWCAG 2.2 AA, plus AODA, the provincial equivalents and the Accessible Canada Act where they apply

What we design forEvery page this service adds or rewrites, tested with a keyboard and a screen reader rather than only scored by a tool. Headings that describe the content rather than carrying a search term, and alternative text that describes the image rather than repeating the page.

What we document for your counselThe test results per template, the standard tested against and the date, so a barrier report can be answered with a measurement.

  • Electronic messagesCASL, for the newsletter, the lead capture and the review request

What we design forConsent and its basis recorded at the moment it is given, no pre-ticked boxes, an unsubscribe that works in one action, and the identification and contact information the legislation asks to be present in a commercial message.

What we document for your counselThe consent basis per subscriber and the send log, which is the evidence the legislation asks you to be able to produce.

  • LanguageQuebec's Charter of the French Language, where the business operates there

What we design forPer-language authoring rather than a translation pass, with its own question research per language, because the questions buyers ask are not the same questions translated. Each language gets its own URLs, its own pages and its own structured data.

What we document for your counselWhich surfaces are authored per language and which are not yet, so the gap is a list somebody owns rather than a surprise.

  • Where the data livesAnd which processor sees it

What we design forThe analytics processor, the tag manager, the consent tool and the form processor named in the scope before the work, with their regions, chosen rather than inherited from whatever a template loaded.

What we document for your counselEach processor, what it sees, the region it sees it in, and what changes if you move region later.

HUREAL designs to a standard, tests against it, and documents what was built. The determination is your counsel's or your privacy officer's to make. Our own conformance target and how to report a barrier are on the accessibility page.

Questions people actually ask.

  • Can you guarantee a first-place ranking?

No. Google, OpenAI, Microsoft, Perplexity, and Google's assistants all decide their own results. What we commit to is the work, the measurement, and honest reporting, including the periods when a number goes the wrong way.

  • How long before anything moves?

Technical and consistency fixes tend to show up first. Content and authority compound more slowly and keep paying afterwards. Citations in AI answers sometimes move faster than rankings once the foundation is right, which is why we track them rather than predict them.

  • Is this different from what an SEO agency does?

It includes it. Traditional search work is the foundation, and we do it properly. The added part is what happens when the buyer asks an assistant instead of a search engine: entity clarity, crawler access, citable content, and a site an agent can actually use. Both are measured in the same report.

  • What does it cost?

The price is set after the discovery call and written into the proposal you sign. How scope and price are set

  • Should we block AI crawlers?

That is your decision and it has a cost either way. Blocking them protects your content from being used to train a model, and it also removes you from the answers those assistants give about your category. We put the trade in front of you with what we know, and we set whatever you decide rather than deciding quietly.

  • How do you measure whether an assistant named us?

By asking them, on a schedule, with the questions your buyers actually use, and recording what came back including who was named instead of you. It is sampling rather than a complete count, we say so in the report, and it is the only honest measurement available today.

  • Do you need access to our site, or do you just advise?

We need to be able to change the site, or the foundation half of this does not happen. Where your own developer will make the changes, that works, and we write the specification and verify the result. An arrangement where nobody can touch the site is one we would decline rather than bill for.

  • We rebuilt the site and lost rankings. Can that be recovered?

Usually a good part of it, and the first thing to check is the redirect map, because the most common cause is old URLs that now lead nowhere. We look at what changed, what was lost, and what was already weak before the rebuild, and we tell you which of the three you are dealing with.

  • Who writes the content?

We draft it from what your people know, and you approve every word before it is published. Time with somebody who does the work is worth more than any amount of research, because the specific thing only a practitioner knows is exactly what makes a page worth citing.

  • What happens to all of this if we stop?

The accounts and the profiles are in your name, the pages and the structured data are in your site, and the record of what was done is written so somebody else can continue it. The ongoing work stops, and results it was maintaining can fade without it.

  • Does this work if we have no marketing person?

Yes, with one condition: somebody has to answer questions. Not write, not approve a strategy, just tell us how the work actually gets done. Where nobody will do that, the content half of the programme is not worth buying and we will say so.

Where this matters most.

Four sectors, and the reason in each

  • Professional services

This is the category assistants answer most readily, because the question is usually who rather than what. Three or four firms get named with a reason attached, and the reasons come from what those firms published about how they work.

  • Construction and trades

The work is a service area rather than an address, and the map result is most of the game. Hours, categories and coverage are facts that have to agree across a dozen places, and most of those places were set up by somebody who has left.

  • Healthcare and clinics

Patients search by neighbourhood and by symptom, and the listings are checked against regulators and professional bodies whose records the clinic does not control. Consistency between those records and the site is worth more here than any amount of publishing.

  • Manufacturing and distribution

Buyers search specifications, part numbers and tolerances for weeks before anybody picks up a phone. Whatever is not published gets asked on a call, and whatever is not on the call gets assumed, usually in a competitor's favour.
